Basket weaving, pottery, beading, moccasin making, and traditional clothing
Melanie “Molly” Pesata is from the Llanero clan of the Jicarilla Apache Nation located in Northern New Mexico. A traditional artist, 4th generation basket weaver, teacher, mom and grandma. I come from a well-known artistic family and traditional culture was always a big part of my life. Teaching my community about how to make our traditional clothing, beading, basket weaving, pottery, moccasins and cooking traditional foods is very important to me. I focus on teaching mainly to the youth so they can learn and continue passing on our traditional culture. I work for the Jicarilla Cultural Arts & Heritage Center, I am learning my language, living a healthy lifestyle, taking care of my family and teaching about my Jicarilla Culture. I want to keep the traditional arts and cultural ways alive.
